Announcing the new D98.co website. My name is David Thrift from Southeast Alabama, and this is my new official website.
I am a content creator and curator, amateur photographer, digital art creator, and craftsman.
My purpose for starting and maintaining this website is to hoard links by creating a website and social media directory, personal blog, and share my creativity. I also hope to start a new zine here, and publish some ebooks at some point.
How I came up with the url D98.co is simple. D stands for my name, David, and 98 stands for 1998, which was the first year I got on the internet. I discovered the url was available, and I bought it. It is not the first url I’ve owned, but is the shortest one.
I have turned off commenting and “likes” on this blog to avoid spammers. It’s a shame to have to do that, but spammers run rampant on the WordPress.com platform, primarily in the form of like spamming, and I refuse to allow this blog to get spammed. I will put up a contact page with a contact form on it as soon as I can, and it will be the only means of communicating to me any comments about the content I post on this website.
I am moving content over to this website from my old one. So check back soon to see what is new.
Thanks for using D98.co!
Below is a look at some other content that may interest you (under construction at the moment).
Lemmy:
Lemmy is an open-source, self-hostable link aggregation and discussion platform, similar to Reddit or Hacker News, but operating on a decentralized network called the Fediverse. Users can subscribe to “communities” (similar to subreddits) on different servers, or “instances,” and interact with users and communities across the entire network using the ActivityPub protocol. This decentralized model offers alternatives to centralized social media by promoting user control, data ownership, and community autonomy.
I recently discovered Lemmy, and although I haven’t signed up for an account there yet, I have been checking in on some of the discussions that seemed interesting enough to follow, or that may offer some useful resources. Below is a list of some of the topics I check in on from time to time.
